Coolidge Corner was named after the Coolidge & Brother general store that opened in 1857 at the intersection where Coolidge Corner currently is. In 1897, the iconic Tudor-style S.S. Pierce Building was constructed, originally as a grocery store and has since housed a variety of businesses and a clock tower that is visible from nearly everywhere in Coolidge Corner. Also found in Coolidge Corner is the Coolidge Corner Theater, a restored Art Deco movie palace that has been an key part of Coolidge Corner since 1933 and is one of the last remaining original big screen movie houses. Not too far from Coolidge Corner is the birthplace of President John F. Kennedy, a National Historic Site.

Chestnut Hill has much to offer its residents. The area has many notable shopping centers, including The Mall at Chestnut Hill, The Street at Chestnut Hill, and Chestnut Hill Square. The area is well serviced by multiple branches of the MBTA green line, and several bus lines. Chestnut Hill also has plenty of history; it is home to four registered historic districts. The houses in Chestnut Hill are also relatively diverse. In the area you can find examples of Colonial, Italianate, Shingle, Tudor Revival, and Victorian architecture, all nearby each other. The neighborhood is also home to Pine Manor College.
